8. Having them call their other parent

When your children are with you (especially if it’s more than a couple days), lovingly encourage them to call their other parent for a friendly chat.

And do so in positive language:

  • “How about calling Mom; you know how she loves to hear from you!”
  • “Hey, why don't you call Dad and tell him about winning your game today!”

Give yourself 10 points on your Score Sheet if you can say, “At least once a week, I encourage our children to call their other parent. And I do so in words that show I respect and value the relationship they have.”
